Manganese Bronze C675

Manganese Bronze (C67500)
  • Material: A high-strength copper-zinc alloy (brass family) containing manganese and aluminum additions that significantly increase strength, hardness, and wear resistance compared to conventional brasses. C67500 is commonly selected for demanding industrial applications requiring a combination of strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance.

  • Mechanical Properties:

    • Yield strength typically ranges from ~35–60 ksi, depending on product form and condition.

    • Tensile strength typically ranges from ~75–100 ksi.

    • Higher strength and hardness than standard brass alloys.

    • Good fatigue resistance and excellent wear resistance under heavy loading conditions.

    • Density remains similar to other copper-based alloys and is approximately 10–15% lighter than carbon steel.

  • Corrosion Resistance:

    • Good resistance to atmospheric exposure, fresh water, and mild marine environments.

    • Suitable for many industrial and marine hardware applications.

    • Provides better corrosion resistance than many ferrous alloys but is generally less resistant than Aluminum Bronze alloys in aggressive seawater service.

    • Care should be taken in highly corrosive environments where dezincification or stress corrosion cracking may occur.

  • Manufacturing Considerations:

    • Good machinability compared to many high-strength copper alloys.

    • High strength and wear resistance make it suitable for demanding mechanical applications.

    • Well-suited for casting and machining operations.

    • Can be brazed and soldered using appropriate procedures; welding requires specialized techniques.

  • Applications in Fasteners & Components:

    • High-strength fasteners requiring improved corrosion resistance compared to carbon steel.

    • Bushings, bearings, wear plates, and other sliding or load-bearing components.

    • Marine hardware and industrial equipment components.

    • Mining, oilfield, and heavy equipment applications where strength and wear resistance are critical.

    • Gears, worm wheels, and other power transmission components.

Key Takeaway for Fasteners

Manganese Bronze C67500 is selected when a fastener or component requires higher strength and wear resistance than conventional brass alloys while maintaining good corrosion resistance. It serves as an effective intermediate solution between standard copper alloys and high-strength steels, making it well suited for heavy-load industrial, marine, mining, and oilfield applications where both durability and corrosion performance are important.
