Materials

Bronze: Aluminum Bronze C630

Aluminum Bronze C63000 (UNS C63000)

Material:

  • A high-strength nickel-aluminum bronze alloy containing copper, aluminum, nickel, and iron.

  • Known for its exceptional combination of strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance.

  • One of the strongest and most versatile copper-based alloys used in engineered fasteners and critical components.

Mechanical Properties:

  • High strength, with tensile strength typically ranging from 110–140 ksi, depending on temper and processing.

  • Excellent fatigue resistance and impact toughness.

  • Superior wear and galling resistance compared to most brasses and bronzes.

  • Maintains mechanical properties across a broad temperature range.

Corrosion Resistance:

  • Outstanding resistance to seawater, salt spray, and marine environments.

  • Excellent resistance to chloride attack, biofouling, and cavitation erosion.

  • Performs well in many chemical processing environments.

  • More resistant to corrosion than many carbon steels and standard stainless steels in marine service.

Manufacturing Considerations:

  • Good machinability for a high-strength copper alloy, though more challenging than brass alloys.

  • Suitable for machining, forging, and fabrication of custom fasteners and components.

  • Weldable using appropriate procedures and filler materials.

  • Can be heat treated to optimize mechanical properties.

Applications in Fasteners & Components:

  • Marine and offshore fasteners exposed to seawater and harsh environmental conditions.

  • Oil & gas equipment requiring corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength.

  • Pump shafts, valve components, and bearing assemblies.

  • Naval and defense hardware, including non-sparking and corrosion-resistant components.

  • Heavy-duty industrial fasteners where both strength and corrosion resistance are critical.

Key Takeaway for Engineered Fasteners

Aluminum Bronze C63000 is chosen when applications require a combination of high strength, excellent wear resistance, and exceptional marine corrosion resistance. It is widely used in offshore, marine, oil & gas, power generation, and defense applications, where traditional brass alloys lack sufficient strength and stainless steels may be susceptible to galling or certain forms of corrosion.

For engineered fasteners, Aluminum Bronze C630 is often selected when designers need a copper-based alloy that delivers near alloy-steel strength while maintaining outstanding resistance to seawater corrosion and wear. It is one of the premier materials for critical marine and offshore bolting applications.
